I received a culinary question from a work friend of my husband the other day about Green Tomatoes. To be honest I had never given them much thought before. I was so touched to be seen as any type of cooking “go to expert” and knew I had to do the honor justice. Challenge accepted! I searched around and found some very interesting recipes. If you have a dilemma with a pile of green tomatoes that will not make it in your garden this will give them a tasty new life!
Here is a list of funky cool recipes I found:
Green Tomato Jam with Ginger and Vanilla
Spaghetti Sauce (there is Bacon in it)
Nicole! Thanks for answering my email. As I said, generally I’ve let green tomatoes rot, but there were so many this year, I wanted to try something. I did the Fried Green tomatoes this year, but after getting your email, I’ve bookmarked the links and next year I’ll have to try something else.
Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, I’m heading down to VA for the weekend to see some friends. I don’t think their season is over yet, so maybe, if they have green tomatoes in their garden, I’ll grab a bag of Tostitos and try the Salsa Verde.
Thanks again!
You are so welcome Chris. Thanks for the inspiration for the post! ๐ Salsa Verde is delicious, I hope you find Green ones left in VA!
All I’ve made are fried green tomatoes– now I need to try some of these other recipes!
Let me know if you try some Elizabeth ๐
Thank you Amy! I am excited to try a few myself. ๐
I love green tomatoes so this is a fab round-up! I love the looks of the pasta sauce – I know i’d just love that!
