Slow Cooker Apple Butter

I was so excited to find a recipe to make apple butter in my slow cooker! I have never even entertained the idea of making apple butter for the time consuming aspect. I have to admit it was a long day of babysitting it but the results came out excellent. The babies really enjoyed it and I was able to share some with some special family members as well. So have no fear it is not as impossible as it seems and you will be glad you did! 🙂

Ingredients

  • 6 apples (I used Organic Pink Lady Apples)

  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider (or apple juice) (I used Mott’s Tots Apple juice)

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp allspice

  • 1/4 tsp cloves

  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

  • Peel, core and chop apples, add to slow cooker.
  • Add cider/juice, sugar and spices.
  • Cook on high for two hours.
  • Reduce heat to low and cook 6-8 hours, stirring every hour. When done, the apple butter will have thickened and be a deep brown color.
  • For a smoother texture, blend to break down any remaining chunks of apple.
