Pesto Rolls

pesto rolls

I have always wanted to try my hand at making Pesto sauce. I started to think about the possibility of making something beyond the obvious pasta dish. I came across a great idea on Savorysweetlife.com to make a savory version of a cinnamon roll…genius.  These pesto rolls me of the garlic knots I loved when I lived in NYC.  I will admit I took  a shortcut and used premade pizza dough from the local grocery but am looking forward to making my own next time.

Ingredients

  • 1 package pizza dough

  • 2-3 tbsp Pesto

  • 3-4 tbsp Shredded Asiago or Parmesan cheese

Directions

  • Roll out dough on floured surface to a flat rectangle.
  • Spoon pesto mixture and spread evenly along surface.
  • Sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  • Roll the dough lengthwise.
  • Cut into even sections.
  • Place one roll in a separate greased muffin tin.
  • Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

Notes

  • Be careful (unlike me) when cutting the dough to make it come out even. I realized too late and a few came out delicious but a little funny looking.
